The Deadsilence Syndicate Band (Deadsilence Syndicate, SMB)
Spawned off the back of an ageing London rave scene, the sound of The Deadsilence Syndicate Band has been likened to punk and bass amongst other genres. The band use digital instruments only, including V-drums, V-bass and electric cello and have no sequencers or backing tracks of any kind in place when playing live making the six piece outfit unique in a new era of dance music. Churning out everything from tuff vocal tracks to full on drum and bass tear outs that will get any hardcore junglist jumping, The Deadsilence Syndicate band pull out all the stops to deliver an all out audio assault not to be missed.
Official Deadsilence Band Press Release
Two punks, three Dj’s and a laid back bass scientist meander through the 1990’s, ears open to the ever changing audio that fills their soul spoilt city. Confused by genres, pigeon holes and evolving formats they seek more than the local sound system or night clubs can offer them. “It’s not as a good as a gig though mate” the scruffy punk explains to the dedicated Dj one morning after a night of debauchery. “Ok, maybe” agrees the Dj, “but who wants to listen to a f*cking lead guitarist when their out on a Saturday night”? “It doesn’t have to be that way though” the scruffy punk argues, “I’m selling my drum kit, check this out”. He reaches for a crumpled up copy of Future Music magazine, scrambles through the pages and finally arrives at his destination. “Look, a real midi drum kit, one that finally works. As soon as I can sell them old pots and pans, I’m getting it. I’m gonna make drum and bass, real drum and bass, with real people and real instruments.” And so he did…
Times changed, things rearranged, technology grew and our young punks craved. One Dj who secretly played the cello, discarded his antique for a new electronic one. The bass scientist keenly awaited the first midi bass guitar. Punk number two quickly invested in an electronic percussion device. The dedicated Dj brought along some powerful synthesizers and it wasn’t long before they bumped into a suitable rapper spending his afternoons gibbering on street corners for shirt buttons.
It was done.
The whole band was electronic.
Not a hint of traditional band stuff in sight.
Intrigued? I hope so!
SPECIAL GUEST DJ
The Dexorcist (Control Tower, SMB)
For December we also bring you a Dj set from Deadsilence collaborator and lifelong vinyl junkie, Simon Brown aka ‘The Dexorcist’. Simon’s history is rooted firmly within the UK free party scene. In the early 1990’s he was a key member of the Fear Teachers crew, embarking on many an outdoor adventure in the British countryside and educating revellers in the art of acid house, techno and electro under a strobe lit moon. Through the 1990’s he was a regular fixture on many of the free party lineups, collaborating with the Kore Dispension Unit and wreaking havoc through the warehouse wastelands and forbidden fields of London and Europe, cutting his teeth as a competent Dj before moving into playing clubs as his reputation increased.
Not content with just spinning other people’s records, Simon has released his tracks under many record labels including New Skin, Audio Illusion, Urban Disturbance and through his own imprint, Control Tower, a fast and furious dancefloor electro label he runs with Keith ‘Radioactive Man’ Tenniswood. He has collaborated with the Bass Junkie as ‘Kronos Device’, a futuristic, industrial electro bass project released through the Battle Trax imprint and with fellow Deadsilence member Krude as ‘Bombdogs’. Most recently, he has released his solo music to critical acclaim through the French electro/breakbeat label SMB with the excellent Quad Angle and Dextermination EP’s, both of which helped put him firmly on the electro map as one of the UK’s most talented producers.
