Vector Lovers (Soma, Iwari)
Who are the mysterious Vector Lovers? In the last year, their trademark bittersweet electro melodies have made waves in the UK music press and with cover mount appearances for both Jockey Slut and DJ Magazine; a timely explanation is probably in order. Vector Lovers is actually the alias of York based producer Martin Wheeler, creator of achingly gorgeous synth tunes and downright funky robotic electro.
His first major release, the groundbreaking Roboto Ashido Funk EP was released to critical acclaim. The record sold out as far afield as Detroit and Tokyo with IDJ Magazine writing that Roboto was 'one of the top 10 electro/techno releases of 2003'. With the Vector Lovers gospel spreading fast, Glasgow based Soma Records ñ the home of respected producers such as Slam, Silicone Soul and Funk DíVoid - signed Martin up in 2004, re-issuing the twelve as his first release on the label. He’s since gone on to release three more twelve’s on the label as well as his self-titled debut longplayer.
