B12 (Warp, B12 Recordings)
Notoriously shy of the music press, the London based duo of Mike Golding and Steve Rutter have made a massive impact on the UK electronic music scene despite a comparatively conservative release schedule. Their style is often compared favourably to the great Detroit producers such as Juan Atkins and Derrick May and can best be described as heavily syncopated techno/electro with a strong base in melody and mood - futuristic music for a digital age.
They first started to release music in the early 90's under pseudonyms such as RedCell, Musicology and CStasis on their own B12 imprint and were immediately hailed alongside the great UK techno artists such as LFO, The Black Dog, Sweet Exorcist and Tricky Disco, heralding a new age of post-acid house techno-based electronic music. Their notoriety was soon picked up on by Sheffield's Warp Records, who signing the duo to the label in 1992 and released the now legendary Electrosoma in 1993, an album that assembled and compiled the best of their early years. They followed the release with a three-year hiatus before releasing the like-sounding Time Tourist in 1996 and after their third long player, 3EP was issued on Warp in 1998 the duo retracted from public space and reportedly from electronic music production till now.
2004 saw their first live set in 6 years, headlining the massive London club night Wheels Instead of Hooves. Now it's Sequence's turn as they take part in a two-date tour taking in Sheffield and Manchester.
